My Hero's Journey

In many stages of my life, I have had to fail in order to succeed. Like many others, in order to learn from my mistakes, I had to take those attempts at what I wanted to accomplish in order to be successful to myself and to those around me. Although people around me saw a courageous, honorary, accomplished knight, I always wanted to keep my standard to a higher level than those people that were on the same path as I was and in order to accomplish that goal and the standard I had built for myself, I needed to fail. As a knight I needed to be able to face the challenges that had been brought upon me when heading to my destination of the Green Chapel. This beastly Giant went forth to say that he is there to put to the test of the brave knights our army has to offer “This axe I will give to the one who will meet this challenge: that he will take it and strike me one blow with it. I shall take his blow unarmed and unguarded without hesitation or protest. Then, in one year’s time, he shall seek me wherever he may find me and take the same blow from me in like manner. Show me the knight who will take my challenge” and in proud courageous spirit I am, taking up the Giants challenge and showing him what our King Arthur has taught us especially me as his nephew. After accepting the challenge the Giant made of giving him a strike to the neck and receiving the same blow in one year, I knew that from that moment on I needed to preserve what I had and hope for the best of myself when that time is to come. I completed the Giants request in honor of my King Arthur and to my fellow Knights as well as the people of the town to show that here I am an honorary man who holds great courage and respect to his King and will not come down in temptation or fear from one mans …show more content…
What I mean by this is, I did accept the Great Giants challenge, but I did so in fear. At the moment I was not focused on the impact that challenge would have on my life or my ladies life. I wasn’t ready to leave all that I had constructed of my life and did not know how to face the commitment of such a difficult challenge. However, I always do hold myself to the high standard that I have set myself. When I unfaithfully was involved with another lady, I recognized it with such embarrassment, but still accepted the fact that what I did was unfaithful and morally wrong. I also feared death and the Giant was guaranteed to deliver that to me. I ran and tried to extinguish that moment from ever happening, but when the time did come I knew that it was what I had to do. When the Giant came and was going to give me my end of the bargain and the blow to my neck, I flinched at the fierce motion of the Giants blow which happened to barely nick my neck. I was confused, astonished and could not believe what the giant was doing to me, he did this in order for me to understand the lesson that I was being taught and that is something that I have
